Winery Alexander Laible
The Winery Alexander Laible is situated in the picturesque village of Durbach in the wine growing region of Baden right on the entrance to the Durbach Valley. Alexander Laible, who has always wanted to follow in the family winemaking tradition that began in 1672, trained as a vintner from 1996 to 1998 and was then schooled to become a viticulturist in Weinsberg. He then began to gain experience on the Moselle and quickly became successful. In 2004 he returned to his hometown. In 2007 he jumped at the opportunity to purchase a parcel of land on which he founded his own winery. There is a 160 year-old mill on the property which he elaborately restored. Today it serves as a venue for wine-tasting events, parties and an annual winery festival.
‘Give the wines all the time in the world.’
Laible cares for the vineyards together with Eugen Schlindwein and Iris Mauch to ensure that they are cultivated in harmony with Mother Nature. The ripe grapes are picked by hand and gently processed without being subjected to rough mechanical stress. Then the wines are allowed to mature in the wine cellar. Laible calls it ‘controlled idleness’: Give the wine time to develop naturally.
