Chateau Clerc Milon
In 1970, Baron Philippe de Rothschild purchased Château Clerc-Milon. The winery covers 40 hectares in the immediate vicinity of Château Mouton-Rothschild. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenère grape varieties thrive there. The grapevines are an average of 53 years old, and Château Clerc Milon produces about 170 000 bottles of wine per year. The nearby river prevents frost in the spring and cools the area in the summer. The deep, sandy gravel soil of the vineyards forces the plants to produce long roots in order to reach the rich nutrient supply that, in turn, influences the diverse aromas of the wines.
Château Clerc Milon under the Ownership of the Rothschild Family
The work performed in the winery is exemplary of the family values of Baroness de Rothschild: The combination of aesthetics, innovative spirit and respect for tradition.
