    What is dry wine?

The term dry wine is a coarse term for wines whose sugar content is prescribed by law. The legislator allows a maximum of 4 g/l residual sugar, whereby a wine with 9 g/l is also considered a dry wine if the total acid content is 2 g/l lower than the residual sugar. That means little sugar, but a lot of alcohol. The grapes on the vines on the world's vineyards enjoy the sun and produce sugar. This is converted into alcohol during the fermentation by yeast bacteria. The longer this process takes place, the less sugar remains. A dry wine is born. Sparkling wine is slightly sweeter, as the prescribed residual sugar content may be between 17 and 35 g/l.

    Grape varieties for dry wine

Dry is the most common variety in which wine is presented. Whether white wine, red wine, rosé wine or even dessert wine - there is hardly a dry wine type that does not exist. Dry wine does not stop with grape varieties either. The German wine queen Riesling is mostly pressed in a dry dress. Wines from Bordeaux are basically dark, dry wines. White wines from the grape varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc and Pinot Gris are considered ideal grapes for dry white wines with fresh minerality and fine acidity. However, the parade discipline for dry wines is red wine. Almost every grape variety, Malbec, Syrah, Montepulciano, Merlot to name a few, find their vocation as dry red wines. Powerful, smooth and fruity aromatic, these wines have been popular for centuries. Why stop now when the quality has never been higher, the selection has never been larger and the dryness has never been drier? Exactly!
