The mountain giving the name
The Helderberg owes its name to its beauty. Translated from Afrikaans it means clear or bright mountain. Because when the sun goes down, the western side of the mountain is brightly lit. At your height of 1137m, the Helderberg rises above the wine-growing region in the Western Cape of South Africa.
It's been a long time
Already centuries ago, farmers used the fertile soil and the ideal proximity to the sea to cultivate vines around the mountain. The Helderberg Wijnmakerij was founded in 1906. Also in this year the first grapes were harvested.
Every step leads to success
In the following decades Helderberg Wijnmakerij became more and more important for red wines from South Africa. This is partly due to the fact that Helderberg Wijnmakerij always maintains the tradition of vinifying red wines from particularly excellent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
