Rocca delle Macìe
Cinematic Wines from Tuscany
Italo Zingarelli has long cherished the dream of producing wines. Until then, however, he would first make a name for himself as a producer of films like "We were so in love" or the films "The Devil's Right and Left Hand" and "Four Fists for a Hallelujah" with Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill. In 1973 the time finally came and he acquired the estate "Le Macie". With an area of 93 hectares it offered ideal conditions for excellent wine with Chianti appellation. However, at first only two of them were planted with vines.
A Generation Leap
In 1985 Italo handed over the management of the farm to his sons Sergio and Fabio and his daughter Sandra. The international sales department was expanded and four years later Sergio and his wife Daniela took over the management of the business. With determination and the demand for high quality, Sergio and Sandra managed to increase the reputation of the estate and win several prizes.
Today's key data
At Rocca delle Macìe, time has not stood still, and so the estate has evolved today:
500 hectares of total area, of which
- 200 hectares of vineyards
- 22 hectares of olive groves
Several properties belong to Rocca della Macìe:
- Le Macìe
- Fizzano e el Tavolelle
- Riserva di Fizzano
- Casa Maria
The first four are in the Chianti Classico region, the others in Maremma.
Bright gardens and dark cellars
The cellars by Rocca delle Macìe are mainly located at the company's headquarters. 3 different rooms have now been furnished, the first one in the former stable of the estate. The first one is located in the former stable of the estate, which holds only 35 large barrels. The first real cellar was built in the 1970s, which already contains 70 barrels and another 400 barriques. A further 100 barriques are found in an old hayloft where the grapes for Vinsanto were dried in the past.
There is also a modern cellar in Le Tavolelle, where the highest quality red wines are stored and can mature in barriques under optimal conditions. The wines from Maremma, the second region, mature again in the cellar of Campomaccione.
Plenty of choice for every taste
The flagship of Rocca della Macìe is of course the Chianti Classico, but "simple" Chiantis are also produced here. The two wineries outside these appellations produce the DOC-protected Maremma wine, as well as the simpler Tuscany IGT wines, which are nevertheless of high quality and pay tribute to the tradition of Tuscan wines. Macìe also offers wines from Montalcino, Montepulciano, Bolgheri, San Gimignano and Orvieto.
