Stag's Leap Wine Cellars
Stag's Leap - the iron fist in velvet gloves
Although Warren Winiarski has only been a winemaker and owner of the Stag's Leap vineyard since 1970, the then completely unknown winemaker won first place at the Paris Wine Tasting 1976 with his 1973 S. L. V. Cabernet Sauvignon. He disrespectfully overtook the most prestigious Bordeaux Grands Crus Classés. A nightmare for the French wine world! But the quality of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars wines spoke and still speaks for itself and Winiarski has developed into a leading figure in the Californian wine scene.
S. L. V., FAY, CASK 23... for wine lovers these cryptic letter abbreviations mean Cabernet Sauvignon in highest perfection. The unmistakable style of its wines is characterised by the winery itself as an iron fist in velvet gloves. In other words, this is where powerful wines are produced with the backbone, structure and potential that are gently enveloped in juicy fruit, suppleness and perfect elegance.
