Weingut Markus Molitor
Markus Molitor Winery - Tradition for eight generations
In 1984, Markus Molitor, then only 20 years old, took over his father's winery in the middle of the Wehlen Monastery Mountain with the aim of producing typical and storable Moselle Rieslings. Since then he has cultivated vineyards in 15 different locations. Most of the vineyards are planted with Rieslings. In selected plots Molitor also produces excellent Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.
Markus Molitor's vineyard is characterised by vines that are more than 100 years old, true to their roots and grow in microclimatic conditions. The slate soils typical of the region are very varied due to the wide regional distribution of the built-up areas, but always with excellent mineral properties. The soils are only enriched organically, Molitor deliberately refrains from using fining agents, enzymes or other additives.
Naturalness, tradition and time for maturity are the foundations of Molitor's cultivation technique. On steepest slopes with up to 80% inclination, all grapes of the Molitor vineyard are traditionally picked by hand, selected in the vineyard and fermented spontaneously in the three-storey stone vaulted cellar. Markus Molitor's Rieslings have structure, depth of taste, freshness and elegance.
